On May 25, 2024, the 4th International Conference on Computer Communication and Artificial Intelligence (CCAI 2024) was grandly held in Xi'an. The conference was jointly organized by Xidian University, and Beijing CAS Spark Institute of Information Technology, with co-organizers including Xi'an Jiaotong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Shaanxi Normal University, Taiyuan University of Technology, North China University of Technology, The University of Manchester, University of Huddersfield, Queen Mary University of London, Shaanxi Communication Society, and the Journal of Communications and Information Networks. The conference was hosted by Xidian University.
CCAI 2024 aims to serve as an exceptional opportunity forresearchers, spanning both the emerging talents and seasoned academics, to converge and share their latest advancements. The conference invited renowned experts and scholars, including Foreign Fellow of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, U.K. and of IET, Professor Jiangzhou Wang, Member of Academia Europaea and Fellow of IEEE, Professor Yaochu Jin, Professor Suzhou from Xi'an Jiaotong University, Professor Feng Shu from Hainan University, Professor Weihua Sheng from Oklahoma State University, Professor Nan Cheng from Xidian University, Professor Yuanwei Liu from Queen Mary University of London, Professor Wensheng Lin from Northwestern Polytechnical University, and Dr. Jingqing Wang from Xidian University. The scholars presented innovative architectures, theories, methods, and industry development visions, aiming totranscendinggeographical boundaries and promote the dissemination of pioneering research in computer communication and artificial intelligence.
Professor Wenchang Cheng, the chairman of the conference committee from Xidian University, stated that CCAI 2024 aims to promote collaboration and communication between researchers and developers from academia and industry, leading researchers to understand the latest research advancements in the field and deeply explore innovative research in computer communication and artificial intelligence.
Professor Jiangzhou Wang from the University of Kent delivered a keynote speech titled "mmWave Integrated Communications and Sensing," introducing the concept and challenges of millimeter waves, and presenting the latest research achievements in Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) technology using hybrid beamforming and rate-splitting multiple access.
Professor Yaochu Jin from the Westlake University delivered a keynote titled "Recent Advances in Secure Federated Data-Driven Optimization," discussing the fundamental concepts of data-driven approaches and the emerging concept of secure federated data-driven optimization.
Professor Suzhou, Dean of the School of Network Science and Engineering at Xi'an Jiaotong University and Chief Scientist of the National Key R&D Program, delivered a speech titled "Crowdsensing in Space-Air-Ground Integrated Networks," introducing a new paradigm of space-air-ground integrated networks and discussing issues such as task allocation, trust management, and data protection.
Professor Feng Shu from Hainan University presented on "Passive DOA Estimation via Massive/Ultra-massive MIMO Receive Array," proposing a novel Heterogeneous Hybrid Analog-Digital (H2AD) algorithm and framework to solve the phase ambiguity problem in full-digital large-scale/ultra-large-scale MIMO Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimation.
Professor Weihua Sheng from Oklahoma State University discussed "Robot-assisted Homecare for Aging in Place," addressing the growing social issue of elderly care by introducing ASCCBot, a home healthcare robot assistant.
Professor Nan Cheng from Xidian University delivered a speech on "Advances in Federated Learning: Navigating Heterogeneous Scenarios and Applications," proposing RingSFL, a new distributed learning method that combines Federated Learning (FL) with model splitting in a ring topology to enhance adaptability to heterogeneous clients.
Assoc.Professor Yuanwei Liu from Queen Mary University of London introduced the concept of Simultaneously Transmitting and Reflecting Surface (STARS) in his speech "STARS for 360° Coverage," discussing the fundamental knowledge and the 6G multifunctional STARS platform, including sensing, amplifying, and caching STARS.
Assoc.Professor Wensheng Lin from Northwestern Polytechnical University presented "Semantic Forward Relaying: A Cross-Domain Cooperative Framework Between Semantic and Syntactic Communications," introducing a novel cooperative communication framework that integrates semantic communication into traditional syntax-based systems.
Dr. Jingqing Wang from Xidian University discussed "Diverse QoS Provisioning for 6G Ultra-Reliable and Low-Latency Services," proposing a diversified Quality of Service (QoS) provisioning system to address the complexity of next-generation wireless networks and establishing a mapping model that integrates user needs, key performance indicators, and QoS metrics.
Throughout the keynote and invited speeches, experts and students engaged in vibrant exchanges and discussions. The conference provided a platform for rich dialogue, broadening the perspectives of attendees and inspiring new thoughts, significantly contributing to their academic and professional development.
